My Values

  • You are probably well-accustomed with feeling compassion for others, but how often do you feel it for yourself? Cultivating a practice of self-compassion and self-acceptance can help guide us all to live more fulfilling lives. Practicing self-compassion involves being understanding and supportive of oneself, especially during challenging times. It means offering comfort, encouragement, and forgiveness rather than self-judgment or harsh criticism. When we treat ourself with kindness and recognize our shared humanity, we can build a life less rooted in shame and disconnection.

  • At the core to my approach is to honor and validate the whole of who you are, including all of your identities. I am committed to principles of anti-racism, inclusion, and social justice. My approach to mental health care means holding space for a client’s race, gender identity, sexuality, religion, relationship configuration, disability status, body size, socioeconomic status, and the daily compounding experience of living at the intersections of these identities. I am happy to support trans and gender nonconforming individuals with gender-affirming mental health care, including letters of support. Social justice and mental health go hand in hand, and my work as a therapist is and will always be rooted in the values of accessibility and equal opportunity. I am committed to respecting your needs, supporting your autonomy, and cultivating your growth.

  • When people think of therapy they typically don’t associate it with the word fun. It is true that therapy will not always be a fun experience, but it can be deeply transformative in reconnecting you with things in your life that bring you joy. The ability to laugh, play, and have fun not only makes life more enjoyable but also helps you solve problems, connect with others, and think more creatively. People who incorporate humor and play into their daily lives find that it renews them and all of their relationships. When we take ourselves too seriously, it can be hard to think outside the box and find new solutions and ways of thinking. But when you play with the problem, you can often transform it into an opportunity for creative learning and fun.
